Normandy has to be one of the best-known regions of France for visitors from the UK. The infamous D-Day landings of the Second World War took place on the regions beaches, names such as Utah, Sword and Omaha offer a poignant reminder of the sacrifice by others. Additionally it is also known for the cosmopolitan resort of Deauville (the Cannes of the North). The resort enjoys an international reputation for fine beaches, casinos and a famous boardwalk.
Normandy has a tradition for welcoming British guests and the local drink of Calvados can be be tasted from many rural independent suppliers. The famous Bayeux Tapestry depicting the Norman invasion of Britain in 1066 is found in the historic town of Bayeaux. For something a little different a visit to the small fishing port of Honfleur might remind visitors of Whitby.
